Solution

Global warming:

  1. The global heating of the planet due to an increase in carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases is termed global warming.
  2. Global warming leads to long-term changes in temperature and weather.

Global warming and wildfires:

  1. Global warming leads to drier and warmer conditions.
  2. Although there is no concrete proof that wildfires are caused by climate change, scientists have been able to establish a strong correlation between warmer temperatures and major fires.
  3. As a result, there is general consensus that the frequency of fires can accelerate climate change.
  4. Compared to the period from 1970 to 1986, the number of wildfires and the area of burned forest increased by a factor of four and six, respectively, during the long, warm summers of 1986.
