Does increasing sample size increase effect size?

Open in App
Solution

Effect of sample size on effect size:

  1. No, increasing sample size does not increase effect size.
  2. Effect size is defined as the magnitude of difference between groups or meaningful relationship between variables.
  3. On increasing the sample size a significant statistical effect is shown however effect size is independent of sample size.
  4. The effect sizes in relatively small studies are known to be more variable than those in relatively larger studies.
  5. It can be noted that small sample size studies typically produce larger effect sizes when compared to large studies.

Therefore, from the above points it is clear that sample size have no effect on effect size.
