Let's take an example to understand the situation.

The following data set represents the number of people present in a supermarket at different times on a day.


The above graph includes the exact number of people present in a supermarket at 8 A.M., 9 A.M., 10 A.M., 11 A.M. and 12 P.M.

After joining the dots, we can have an idea regarding the number of people visited in the supermarket at an intermediate time. But that is for sure will not always be correct.

For an example, if we want to know the exact number of people visited at 9:30 A.M., then joining the dots by a line will not give a correct data.

From a line graph, we can only approximate the values at intermediate data points.

Line graph (drawn by joining the individual data points) does not represent the correct data always.
