Question

Does liquid nitrogen expand when quickly heated ?

Open in App
Solution

1. The process of expansion of liquid nitrogen is intiated by small heating.
2. When heated the molecules gain energy and begin to expand, which is exothermic process and the system releases the energy in outward direction, but large amount of that energy is absorbed by the molecules in the container and they expand.
3. If the system is quickly heated, the expansion would result in explosion as the exothermic process is exagerreted by heat supplied resulting into explosion.
