Question

does N2 of air react with alkali metals ? why?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student

No, Nitrogen present in air does not react with alkali metals.
Nitrogen exists in a natural gaseous state as an inert and a chemically unreactive element.
The natural diatomic molecule of nitrogen is held tightly together by a strong triple bond between the two nitrogen atoms, which requires a huge amount of energy in order to break the bonds. Thus nitrogen in atmosphere is primarily viewed as nonreactive.
