Does pleural effusion occur inside lungs or between pleura layers?

Patient suffering from pneumonia which is the bacterial disease of lungs leads to leakage of pleural fluid into the pleural cavity called pleural effusion. So, pleural effusion is accumulation of pleural fluid between the tissues lining the lungs and chest.
