Question

Does rational numbers come under the closure property of subtraction as in the video it was 5/4 and -5/4

Open in App
Solution

Rational numbers are closed under addition, subtraction and multiplication but not under division.
Because
If a= 1/2 and b=0
Then a/b = (1/2)/0= does not exist.
So the set of rational numbers is not closed under division.
Rational numbers are closure under subtraction eg:
a=5/4 and b=1/2
a-b = 5/4 - 1/2 = 3/4
Which is again a rational number
