Question

Does the first polar body born out of first meiotic division divide further or degenerate?

Open in App
Solution

1: Oogenesis
The process by which an ovum is formed from oogonium is called oogenesis. In this process, the oogonium gives rise to the primary oocyte. The unequal first meiotic division of primary oocyte gives rise to the first polar body and secondary oocyte. The first polar does not divide, rather it degenerates.
