Question

does the inductance of a coil depend on the current carried by it?

Open in App
Solution

No the self inductance of a coil does not depend on the current in the coil.It depends on the geometry of the coil like number of turns of coil ,length of coil magnetic permeability of medium .Let current in coil or infinite solenoid be i so magnetic field in it is B=μni (n is number of turns per unit length and i is current in it)Flux linked with it is =B×A×N (where A is area of cross section and N is total number of turns)Li=B×A×N (L is self inductance of coil)Li=μni ×A×N (n is number of turns per unit length)L=μn ×A×NL=μNl ×A×N=μN2AlRegardsDear student
