Dolmite $(M g C O_{3} \cdot C a C O_{3})$ can be treated to get $M g C l_{2}$ which in turn is electrolysed to get $M g$ (Dow natural brine process). Give reactions for this process.

$M g C O_{3} Δ \to M g C l_{2} + C O$

$M g O + C + C l_{2} Δ \to M g C l_{2} + C O$

At $700^{\circ} C,$

$M g C l_{2} \leftrightarrow M g^{2 +} + 2 C l^{-}$

Cathode : $M g^{2 +} + 2 e \to M g$

Anode : $2 C l^{-} \to C l_{2}$
