Double fertilisation means
Fusion of first male gamete with egg cell and second with the polar nuclei.
Pollen tube releases two male gametes into the cytoplasm of a synergid. One male gamete moves towards the egg cell and fuses with its nucleus. The other male gamete moves towards the polar nuclei and fuses with them to form a triploid nucleus. Since, it involves fusion of two male gametes with different cells, it is called double fertilisation.
