Down’s Syndrome is a classic case of polyploidy.
False
Polyploidy is a condition in which there is an increase in the whole set of chromosomes in an organism as a result of defective cytokinesis. For example, in some hybrid varieties of wheat and maize, each chromosome is present in 4 copies.
In Down’s Syndrome, only the 21st chromosome is present in three copies, making it a trisomy of the 21st chromosome. This condition is known as aneuploidy. Failure of segregation of chromatids during cell division cycle results in the gain or loss of a chromosome(s) is called aneuploidy
