Draw 2 concentric circles of radii 3cm and 5cm. Draw tangents to the inner circle from any point on the outer circle. Measure the length of the tangent. [4 MARKS]

Steps of construction :

1. Draw two concentric circles of radii 3 cm and 5 cm with 'O' as centre
2. Take a point P on the outer circle. Distance of the point P from O will be 5 cm.
3. Bisect the line segment OP and let it be at M.
4. With M as centre and PM as radius draw a circle. Let this circle intersect the circle with radius 3 cm at points T and T'
5. Join PT and PT' They are the required tangents to the inner circle.
6. The radius of the inner circle is 3cm and the distance of the point P from O is 5 cm.
7. According to Pythagoras theorem,the length of the tangent will be 4cm.
