Question

Draw a circle of radius 4cm. From a point 7cm away from a centre, construct a pair of tangents to the circle and measure its length.

Solution

Steps of construction:-
  1. Construct a circle of radius 4cm.
  2. P is a point 7cm away from the centre of the circle.
  3. Join OP.
  4. Draw perpendicular bisector of OP which intersects OP at M.
  5. Taking M as centre and OM as radius draw a circle which intersects the circle C11 at A and B.
  6. Join PA and PB.
On measuring we find PA=PB=7.7cm.
Hence PA and PB are required tangents.
