Draw a line m and mark any point A outside it. Through this point, construct a line perpendicular to m by using a ruler and compass.

Steps of construction:

Step-1: Draw a line m and take a point A lying outside m.

Step-2: Place the compass pointer at point A and adjust the width of compass to a little more than the distance of A from m, and draw an arc across the line intersecting line m at P and Q.

Step-3: From each Points P and Q draw an arc below the line so that the arcs cross each other. Mark the point of intersection as N.

Step-4: Using a ruler Join AN. Now, AN is perpendicular to line m.
