Question

Draw a line MN. Take a point L anywhere on it. Through point L, draw a perpendicular to line MN (using a compass)

Open in App
Solution

Steps of construction:
(1) Draw a line MN.
(2) Take a point L anywhere on the line MN.
(3) Place the point of the compass at point L and draw two arcs of suitable measure on either side of point L cutting the line MN at points P and Q.
(4) Take the arc radius slightly greater than the distance between points P and Q.
Now, by placing the point of the compass first at point P and then at Q, draw two arcs on any one side of the line MN intersecting at point R.
(5) Draw the line RL.
Thus, RL is perpendicular to MN.
