Draw a number line and add the following integers using the number line.

(–2) + 8 + (–4). [4 marks]

As per the question, we have to find the value of (-2) + 8 + (-4) using the number line.

To calculate the value we will follow the steps as follows:

(i) Draw a number line [1 mark]

(ii) Start from the point (-2). Move 8 units to the right of (-2) on the number line to calculate (-2 + 8).

We reach the point 6. [1 mark]


(iii) Now, move 4 units to the left of 6 on the number line to calculate ( 6 -4 ). We reach the point 2.
[1 mark]

Hence, (-2) + 8 + (-4) = 2. [1 mark]
