Question

Draw a rectangle of perimeter 17 cm and sides in the ratio of 5:3. Also, find the measure of the smallest side.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Draw a line segment AB of length 8.5 cm.
[Perimeter = 17 cm ; l + b = 8.5 cm ]

Step 2: Draw a slant line segment AC of 8 cm (as ratio is 3:5, 3 + 5 = 8) and divide it into 5 cm (AD) and 3 cm (DC) parts.

Step 3: Join CB and draw a line parallel to CB from D such that it cuts AB at E.

Step 4: Draw perpendiculars from A and E. With E as centre and radius EB, draw an arc such that it cuts perpendicular from E at F. With the same radius and A as centre, cut the perpendicular from A at G.

By measuring the sides, we get AG = EF = 3.18 ≈ 3.2 cm .
