Draw a well labelled diagram of animal cell and mention one function of the main cell organelles.
Functions of cell organelles :
(i) Endoplasmic Reticulum – It acts as the site for both protein and lipid synthesis, which occurs in rough endoplasmic reticulum and smooth endoplasmic reticulum respectively.
(ii) Ribosomes – It synthesizes proteins.
(iii) Golgi Apparatus – It produces vacuoles that facilitate secretions from the cell.
(iv) Lysosomes – It serves as an intracellular digestive system as it digests the foreign materials which enter the cell.
(v) Mitochondria – These are the sites of cellular respiration.
(vi) Peroxisomes – They help to maintain the osmotic pressure in a cell and protect the cell from oxidative damage.
(vii) Centrosome – It helps in the spindle formation during cell division in animal cells.
(viii) Nucleus - The nucleus is an organelle found in eukaryotic cells and contains the majority of the cell's genetic material. Chromatin is present inside the nucleus and it contains the genetic material in the form of DNA.
