Solution
Anode is Zn container and graphite rod surrounded by MnO2+carbon acts as cathode. A paste of NH4Cl and ZnCl2 is filled between the electrodes. The cell potential is 1.25 to 1.5 V. Oxidation at anode: Zn(s)→Zn2+(aq)+2e− Reduction at cathode: 2MnO2(s)+2NH+4(aq)+2e−→Mn2O3(s)+2NH3(g)+H2O
