The flower is the reproductive organ of the flowering plants producing the male and female gametes.
The important function of a flower is to reproduce with the help of fertilization.
A flower consisting of all four parts - calyx, corolla, stamens, and carpel is called a complete flower.
Examples of complete flowers: China-rose, pea.
Parts of flower:
Calyx: It is the outermost whorl of a flower made up of leaf-like structures called sepals. They are green in color.
Corolla: Corolla is a whorl of flower made up of brightly colored parts called petals. It is the second whorl of a flower. They are large and have the appearance of a petal.
Stamen: It is a male reproductive part. There are two parts in each stamen - anther and filament. The anthers produce powdery tiny structures called the pollen grains where the male sex cells are produced.
Carpel: It is a flask-shaped organ present in the gynoecium of the plant. Each carpel has a basal swollen part known as the ovary. The ovary contains many ovules where the female sex cell is present. Ovules develop into a seed and ovaries develop into fruits.
