Question

Draw line XY. Take any point R outside this line. Draw a line ST through point R parallel to line XY.

Open in App
Solution

Steps of construction:
(1) Draw a line XY and take a point R outside the line.
(2) Place a set square in such a way that one side of the right angle of the set square is along the line XY and the other side of the right angle passes through the point R.
(3) Place another set square in such a way that one side of the right angle is along the side of first set square which is perpendicular to line XY and the other side is parallel to XY.
(4) Holding the first set square firmly, adjust the second one such that the vertex of its right angle coincides with the point R.
(5) Draw a line ST through the point R along the free side of the right angle of the second set square.

(6) Thus, line ST passes through point R and is parallel to XY.
