The first steps are Ammonification -a process in which organic nitrogen of plants and animals after their death is converted to ammonium ions.
Second step nitrification -ammonium ions are converted to nitrate.
The third step is nitrogen uptake by plants -nitrate formed in process Nitrification is used by most plants as mineral metabolites and may beconverted by them into amino groups and other nitrogen-containing compounds.
The fourth step is the fixation of Nitrogen - the reduction of atmospheric nitrogen to the ammonium ion is called nitrogen Fixation.
The fifth step is Denitrification - the reduction of nitrates to nitrogen gas or nitrous oxide by certain microorganisms.
