Question

Draw the graph for each of the equations x + y = 6 and x - y = 2 on the same graph paper and find the coordinates of the point where the two straight lines intersect.

Open in App
Solution

x + y = 6 can be written as y = 6-x

x = 1, y = 6-1 = 5 (1,5)
x = 2, y = 6-2 = 4 (2,4)
x = 3, y = 6-3 = 3 (3,3)

x - y = 2 can be written as x = 2 + y

y = 1, x = 2+1 = 3 (3,1)
y = 2, x = 2+2 = 4 (4,2)
y = 3, x = 2+3 = 5 (5,3)

The intersecting point of both lines of both the equations will be: (4,2)
