Solution
In plants, both haploid and diploid cells can divide by mitosis. The body produces gamete by mitosis. The plant body represents the gametophyte. After fertilization, the zygote also device why mitosis to produce a diploid sporophytic plant body.
Haploids spores are produced by this plant body by meiosis. This, in turn, divides by mitosis to form a haploid plant body once again.
Thus, during the life cycle of any sexually reproducing plant, there is an alternation of generation between gametes producing haploid gametophyte and spore-producing diploid sporophyte.
Cotyledons are the covering of the seed which stores food and non-endospermic seeds
