(a) $\frac{-7}{4}$ = -1 $\frac{3}{4}$, which is a negative rational number, lying between -1and -2.

So we can divide the line between -1 and -2 into 4 equal parts.

Now mark the 3rd division to the left of 1 to get $\frac{-7}{4}$

(b)

$\frac{7}{8}$ lies between 0 and 1, as 7 < 8, so $\frac{7}{8}$ < 1

So, divide the line between 0 and 1 into 8 equal parts.

Plot $\frac{7}{8}$ on the 7th division to the right of ‘0’.
