Draw the number line and represent the following rational numbers on it:

(a) 74 = -1 34, which is a negative rational number, lying between -1and -2.

So we can divide the line between -1 and -2 into 4 equal parts.

Now mark the 3rd division to the left of 1 to get 74

(b)

78 lies between 0 and 1, as 7 < 8, so 78 < 1

So, divide the line between 0 and 1 into 8 equal parts.

Plot 78 on the 7th division to the right of ‘0’.
