Question

Draw the perpendicular bisector of a line segment of length 6.4 cm. Also, measure the length of each bisected part.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Draw a line segment AB = 6.4 cm.

Step 2: Taking A and B as centres and with a radius more than ½AB draw an arc on both sides of the line segment AB

  • We get two pairs of arc intersecting at C and D respectively.

Step 3: Join the point of intersections of two intersecting arcs i.e. C and D.

  • Line CD intersects the line segment AB at ‘O’.

  • Now measure the length of OA and OB which should be OA = OB = 3.2 cm. And ∠COB = ∠COA = 90°

  • Hence, CD is the perpendicular bisector of AB.
