Question

Draw two circles of radii 3.4 cm and 1.8 cm with their centres 5.2 cm apart. How do these circles touch each other? and why?

Open in App
Solution

The radii of the circles with centers C1 and C2 are r1 = 3.4 cm and r2 = 1.8 cm.

It is given that C1C2 = 5.2 cm.

Here, r1 + r2 = 3.4 cm + 1.8 cm = 5.2 cm

We observe that the distance between the centers of the circles is equal to the sum of their radii. Hence, the circles touch each other externally.
