Solution

The correct option is D Increase in urbanisation and industrialisation
Noise pollution can be defined as a disturbing and unwanted sound that harms humans or wildlife.

Noise constantly surrounds people but as it cannot be seen, tasted, or smelled it receives less attention but can have a major impact on humans.

Noise is generated by the following ways :
  • Industrialisation (the development of industries) has led to the use of heavy machinery, generators, mills and huge exhaust fans, resulting in the production of unwanted noise and various health issues.
  • Urbanization is the process by which large numbers of people become permanently concentrated in relatively small areas, forming cities. Vehicle numbers have increased on the roads in cities and this lead to noise pollution.
  • Events like weddings, public gatherings and celebrations often leads to unwanted noise in the neighbourhood due to loud music.
  • Mining activities, piling and construction of buildings also add to the noise pollution. Hence option d is correct.
There has been an increase in the number of musicians but there are various ways to practice the instruments like use of soundproof rooms and technology that will not create noise problems while playing instruments. Hence option a is incorrect.

Number of schools has increased to pay more attention to education. It cannot contribute to noise pollution as the discipline is maintained in schools. Even these areas are honk free zones. So option b is incorrect.
