Solution

  1. During a thunderstorm, both the sound of thunder and lightning flash are produced at the same time but, we see the lightning flash at first and hear the thunder sound later.
  2. It shows that light travels faster than sound.
  3. The speed of light in air is 3×108m/s and the speed of sound in air is 330m/s.
  4. So, light travels faster than sound.
  5. Therefore, the sound of thunder is heard after lightning is seen during a thunderstorm.
