The cell cycle consists of two phases.

1. Interphase. Also known as the resting phase of the cell cycle; interphase is the time during which the cell prepares for division by undergoing both cell growth and DNA replication. It includes the following stages:

G1 phase (First growth phase).

S phase (Synthesis phase).

G2­ phase (Second growth phase).

2.M Phase (Mitotic phase). It occurs in two steps: karyokinesis (nuclear division) and cytokinesis (cytoplasm division).
