Head towards cervix
During childbirth or labour, the cervix gets shorter and thins out in order to stretch and open around the baby's head. Between contractions, the mother's uterus relaxes and pulls the baby back up a little. The correct position of the baby is head first towards the cervix. Once the head is expelled, the rest of the body usually slips out easily with one or two pushes.
