The conversion of succinyl-CoA to succinate is known as substrate level phosphorylation. In Krebs cycle, during the conversion of succinyl-CoA to succinic acid, GTP is produced from GDP which being unstable immediately changes to ATP. Since ATP synthesis takes place without entering ETC directly by the substrate, it is known as substrate-level phosphorylation.
