Solution

The correct option is C I - F, II - T, III - F, IV - T
The given picture depicts a kangaroo rat which is a rodent that lives in the hot and dry climate of the North American deserts. Kangaroo rats are often considered as masters of desert survival.

Deserts have massive scarcity of water and sparse vegetation, to survive in such extreme climatic conditions, kangaroo rats have multiple physiological and morphological adaptations as follows :
  • Their diet mainly consists of dry seeds of desert plants.
  • They meet all its water requirements through the internal fat oxidation where water is obtained as a by product. Thus, it never needs to drink water. So, statement II is true.
  • They release dry feces which reduces the loss of water from the body as the water is reabsorbed in the gut.
  • The kidneys in kangaroo rats absorb as much water as possible. This make the urine thick and concentrated which helps to conserve water in the body. Therefore, statement IV is true.
They do not aestivate, i.e, going into a period of deep sleep with reduced metabolic activities, during the hot summer months. Therefore, statement I is false.

Being rodents, kangaroo rats do not have sweat glands and they do not produce sweat. Hence statement III is false.
