Solution
The correct option is A 6400 Number of buses on normal days = 1400 Number of buses on Sunday = 1562
Extra buses on Sunday = Number of buses on Sunday - Number of buses on normal days = 1560 - 1400
1560 - 1400 _______ 160 _______ Therefore, number of extra buses on Sunday = 160
Number of passengers in each buses = 40 Number of passengers in 160 extra buses = 160 x 40
In order to multiply by a number ending in zeros, we first need to multiply the number as if it didn't have zeros, and then we just write all of the zeros the number had, on the right of the final answer. (i) Multiplying the non-zero terms, we get, 2 16 x 04 _______ 64 _______ (ii) 160 has one zero and 40 has one zero. So, we write two zers to the right of 64. i.e, 160 x 40 = 6400
Therefore, 6400 more passengers travel by bus on Sunday.
