Solution
The correct option is A50% Option A is correct
During one circuit of blood from lungs to the tissue and back through the circulatory system the percentage of hemoglobin given oxygen is option A i.e, 50%. This is referred to as P50, where 50% of heme group of coach hemoglobin have a molecule of oxygen bound. In the lungs, alveolar gas has a PO2 of 100mmHg. However, due to high affinity of the fourth oxygen molecule, oxygen saturation will remain high we at PO2 of 60mmHg. As the PO2 decreases, hemoglobin saturation will eventually fall rapidly, at a PO2 of 40mmHg hemoglobin is 75% saturated. Meanwhile, at a PO2 of 25mmHg, hemoglobin is 50% saturated.
