Codons that do not code for any amino acid and are responsible for terminating the translation process are called stop codons. There are three stop codons - UAA, UGA and UAG.
Since these codons do not code for any amino acid, there are
no tRNAs in the cell which has an anticodon complementary to any of the three stop codons.
Instead, during the termination of protein synthesis, proteins called release factors recognise and bind to the stop codons terminating the process of protein synthesis.
