Gibberellins stimulate the synthesis of α-amylase and protease enzymes in germinating grains of cereals. They are involved in the conversion of starch into sugar. The proteases convert an inactive β-amylase and α -amylase to digest starch to glucose which is mobilized to meet the metabolic demands of the embryo.
