During which phase of the cell cycle is DNA synthesized?
S
S-phase (synthesis phase) is the part of the cell cycle in which DNA is replicated. It occurs between G1 phase and G2 phase.
The G1 phase, or Growth 1/Gap 1 phase, is the first of four phases of the cell cycle that takes place in eukaryotic cell division. In this part of interphase, the cell grows in size and synthesizes mRNA and proteins in preparation for subsequent steps leading to mitosis.
G2 phase, or Gap 2 phase, is the second subphase of Interphase in the cell cycle that directly precedes mitosis. It follows the successful completion of S phase, during which the cell's DNA is replicated.
Mitosis and cytokinesis together define the mitotic M phase of an animal cell cycle. Here the mother cell or the parent cell divides into two daughter cells which are genetically identical to each other.
