Question

Each mile a railway track required between 1760 sleepers. If one average sized tree yield 3 sleepers for a 3 meter wide gauge track. Calculate how many trees would have to be cut to lay 12 miles track.

1 mile = 1609m aprox.

For covinence in calc. lets take it as 1608m

Its also given, one average -sized tree yields 3 to 5 sleepers for a 3m wide broad gauge track

Therefore no. of trees would have to be cut to lay one mile of track is given by,

1608/3 = 506trees.(approx)
