Each of the plates shown in figure (31-E19) has surface area (960)×1012 Fm on one side and the separation between the consecutive plates is 4.0 mm. The emf of the battery connected is 10 volts. Find the magnitude of the charge supplied by the battery to each of the plates connected to it.

Here three capacitor are formed and each has area

A=960×1012 Fm

d=4 mm

=3×103 m

Capacitance of capacitor

C=24×109 F

As three capacitors are arranged in series

C=8×109

The total charge to a capacitor

=8×109×10

=8×108 C

The charge of a single plate

=2×8×108

=16×108=0.16 μC
