The correct option is A Both statements are true
Potassium permanganate is a purple colour compound . In KMnO4 , the oxidation state of Mn is +7 , so there is no d- electrons left and the d-d electronic transitions are not possible. But, the colour of KMnO4 is due to charge transfer from O2 (lingand) to central metal atom.
It is called ligand to metal charge transfer. Due to charge transfer oxidation state of Mn changes from+7 to +6 momentarily.
Both K and Mn shows all required properties of metals such as malleability, good conductor of heat and electricity and they show electropositive character. So, they are metals.
