Each rectangle has an area of 12 cm2. What is the sum of the perimeters of the rectangles (in cm)?

The correct option is A 30
Since both the rectangles have 12 squares each in it and have areas 12 cm2 each, we know that each square is of area 1 cm2.

i.e., The sides of the square measure 1 cm.

Using this, we can calculate the length and breadth of the rectangles as follows:


Perimeter of rectangle 1 is given by
6 cm + 2 cm + 6 cm + 2 cm = 16 cm.

Perimeter of rectangle 2 is given by
3 cm + 4 cm + 3 cm + 4 cm = 14 cm.

Sum of their perimeters is given by
16 cm + 14 cm = 30 cm.

Note that though the areas of the rectangles are the same, their perimeters aren't.
