Question

Each wheel of a car is of diameter 80 cm. How many complete revolutions does each wheel make in 10 minutes when the car is travelling at a speed of 66 km per hour?

Solution

Given, speed of the car is 66 km/hr
Distance travelled by the car in 1hr=66 km/hr
Distance travelled by the car in 10mins=6660×10 km
=11 km=11×1000 m=11×1000×100 cm
Diameter of car wheel 80cm
radius of car whee,l
r=diameter2

r=802cm

r=40cm

Circumference of car wheel,
C=2πr
C=2×227×40
C=17607cm
Now,
Number of revolution made by the wheels in 10 minutes==distance covered by the car in 10 minutesdistance travelled by the car when its wheel completes one revolution

=11×1000×100 cm17607

=77×1000×100 cm1760
=4375
Hence, required number of revolutions are 4375.
