Question

Earth is continuously pulling the moon towards its centre, still, it does not fall to the earth. Why?

Solution

Earth is continuously pulling the moon towards its centre, still, it does not fall to the earth because the moon has a tangential velocity. Due to the gravitational force acting on the moon, it changes the direction of motion and it moves in a circular path. If the gravitational force is absent, the moon will just continue moving in a straight line, instead of being in the circular orbit.
