Seeking dominance over the Government by winning the majority was the aim of the leaders of the Sinhala community. It was with this aim that the elected government adopted few majoritarian measures.
In 1956 Sinhala as the only official language. This act proved that they disregarded Tamil. Sinhalese were favoured in Government colleges and other government jobs.
