Election Commission is an independent and very powerful body which is responsible for conducting elections in ouour country .Election Commission in India has wide-ranging powers. Below are the roles/powers owned by the election commission of India :

1.Election Commission takes decision related to conduct and control of every aspect of elections i.e from the announcement of the elections to the declaration of the results.
2. Election commission is responsible for implementation of code of conduct and punishes the ones who violates these code of conducts.
3. During the time of elections, Election Commission can order the government to prevent the use and misuse of governmental powers to increase their chances to win the elections.
4. Government officials work under the control of the Election Commission and not under the control of government at the time of elections.
