Question

Electrons are getting added to an element J. What electrode will J migrate to during electrolysis?

Open in App
Solution

Reduction reaction:

  1. The process of receiving electrons or decrease of electrons in the oxidation state is called reduction.
  2. After adding electrons, J will turn negatively charged.
  3. Thus, in the process of electrolysis, it will attract the positive electrode.
  4. Since the positive electrode is called an anode, therefore J will drift to the anode.

Therefore, during electrolysis, J will migrate to the anode.
