Question

Electrons ejected from the surface of a metal, when light of certain frequency is incident on it, are stopped fully by a retarding potential of 3 volts. Photo electric effect in this metallic surface begins at a frequency 6×1014s1. The frequency of the incident light in s1 is :

(h=6×1034J-sec ; charge on the electron = 1.6×1019C )

Solution

The correct option is C 14×1014
Stopping potential =(hνhν0)/e
3×1.6×1019=6×1034(νν0)(e=1.6×1019c)
3×1.6×10196×1034=ν6×1014
ν=6×1014+3×1.6×10196×1034

=6×1014+0.8×1015

=14×1014sec1

So, the answer is (C).
