Question

Elevation of boiling point of 1M kcl solution is nearly double than that of 1M sugar solution

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
KCl and sugar solution has same molarity.
KCl K+ + Cl- [ 1 molecule of KCl gives 2 ions ]
So, its van't hoff factor = 2
While sugar solution is non-electrolyte and does not dissociate in water. So, its van't hoff factor is 1. As we know that elevation of boiling point is directly proportional to van't hoff factor. Hence, we can say that elevation of boiling point of 1M KCl solution (i=2) is nearly double than that of 1M sugar solution (i=1).
